From the Bucolic Plague to the Covid-crisis, from the Saint Elisabeth flooding in 1421 to the 1953 Flood Disaster: Camerata Trajectina sings about all these disasters in a fascinating overview of Dutch disaster songs. This includes a specially commissioned Covid-song that I wrote on a text by former Dutch poet laureate Ester Naomi Perquin.

This cd carries the most successful and audience-friendly pieces that the Flanders Recorder Quartet for the past ten years played in their so-called Jukeboxconcerts, where they had audiences choose the programs on the spot! I am happy to see no less than three pieces of mine included in this selection. Obviously, the ubiquitous Kadanza, in a highly crispy performance, then Catch (an Angel) and finally the brand new Stamping Ground (for Angels) – no doubt in the expectation that this piece, too, will be liked.

Beautiful arrangements by Arie Abbenes and Saskia Coolen of instrumental pieces inspired by bells and bell ringing, including some fine intermezzi and preludes by Saskia herself.
One contemporary piece by a Dutch composer is included, my own ‘Van heinde en verre (From near and from afar)’. It could well be the first (and only) piece for recorder and carillon.

Op deze CD staat The Water-Call, voor blokfluitsextet met harp (of twee gitaren). Dit is het waterige deel van een groep van vier op ‘de elementen’ gebaseerde stukken die het Praetorius Ensemble liet schrijven door Paul Leenhouts, Matthias Maute, Wilfred Reneman en mijzelf.
De cd werd opgenomen in 1999, om de 35ste (!) verjaardag van het ensemble te vieren. Er staan ook arrangementen op van de “Water Music”en “Music for the Royal Fireworks”van Georg Friedrich Händel.
